NMI3 was present at ECNS2011
As only student sponsor, NMI3 contributed to funding 18 students during the conference in Prague
NMI3 was present at ECNS 2011 in the exhibitors´ area, together with the German neutron facilities HZG, FRM II and JCNS, the Swiss facility PSI and ILL. At the booth, conference participants could pick up a printed copy of our brand new newsletter Inside NMI3 (if you want one please get in touch at info@nmi3.eu) and students were invited to fill in a quick questionnaire about where they had got the funding to come to the conference.
About 30 students took part in our survey and entered our prize draw – the lucky winners went home with beautiful NMI3 T-shirts!
In total, 145 students attended ECNS 2011, among which 25 participants from the Czech Republic, 18 from Germany, 17 from Denmark, 16 from France and 11 from Russia, the rest coming from other European, but also Asian and African countries.
NMI3 was the only sponsor of student grants and contributed with a total of 3000 euros. This money was used to provide a stipend to 18 students for the duration of the conference. In addition to this, the students were provided with accommodation in Prague by the Charles University by the ECNS organisation.
With 625 participants from 40 different countries, 200 talks and over 500 posters presented, ECNS 2011 showed once again the strength and cohesion of the European and international neutron communities. ECNS might be a European conference, but the presence of the international community was strong, with participants from various African and Asia countries, the USA and Australia.
Among highlights of the conference were the award of the Walter Hälg prize to Gerry Lander and of the Felix Bertaud prize to Christian Rügg. Juliette Savin, our Information Manager and Martyn Bull, head of communication at ISIS, gave a 90 minute media workshop on Wednesday afternoon. And everyone could socialise around a beer and typical Czech food at the conference dinner on Thursday night!
